Travvy looks around nervously as she is summon to the podium. She felt like she was in some time of AA meeting. Making a fist with her hand, she covered up her mouth as she cleared it. "ahem..." With a sigh, the brunette girl stood up and walked down the rows of folding gray chairs with the uncomfortable padding, keeping her eyes low to the ground to avoid any sudden eye contact with anybody. Travvy dragged her converse across the tile floor, making it squeak occasionally until she reached the front of the room.
Leaning into the wooden podium, her pale, perfectly manicured hand, tapped on the microphone to make sure it was on. “Hel-hello, my name is Linda, but everyone calls me Traviesa, or Travvy for short. It…it means mischievous in Spanish.” She spoke in a very soft, shy voice; hopefully the setting on the mic wasn’t on high, so people couldn’t hear her. “I…I have been role-playing for over ten years. Basic paper dice game called Role Master and then I wasted many years of my life playing World of Warcraft, until.” Biting her lower lip, now feeling more embarrassed and self conscious then before, admitting that she was a total geek, but that is nothing to be ashamed of right?
“I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and still wanting to role-play I googled it to see what I found. To my surprise, there were many Harry Potter RPG sites and I joined. A three years later, I am still role-playing Ron Weasley on the same site and have received awards for being a charrie that is most like their character. I am not ashamed of role-playing a guy, actually it is rather fun and challenging, being something you are not, the whole purpose of role-playing.” Traviesa shifted her weight, feeling slightly more comfortable. “From there, I joined other sites meeting my role-playing twin, my partner in crime, my best friend. We began building sites together, some succeeding, some failing, but we always did an awesome layout and took our time to be as detailed as possible. Now, we both administer two very popular sites and very proud of that.”
Travvy’s brown eyes finally looked up at the people looking at her, sheepishly; she ran her hand over her brown long locks, brushing strains out of her eyes. “I guess that is enough of my role-playing background. For the real person, who am I?” she paused and contemplated this question. “Happily married, mother of eight year old twins girls and seventeen month old boy and have an incredibly family that helps me out. My friends mean everything to me! And would gladly take a bullet for them. I am always on gtalk because I think it is easier to talk to members and get to know them.” She smiled widely at the mention of her family and friends, dimple displayed on her left cheek. “Laughter is the best sound, especially when it comes from my daughters and son. and obviously, I love to role-play and design boards.”
With that, Travvy stepped down from the podium and slowly made her way back to her seat. The walk back didn’t seem as long as when she first got up to speak, but this time, she held her head up high proudly, but glad that was over just the same. How she hated to speak in public, but now everyone knew some things about her and hoped, now, she could make new friends.
